The new Saltist series is a great entry level rod series for guys fishing in SoCal, offering the right lengths and line classes to go for the vast majority of species and fishing styles. These will be hard to beat when paired with a good budget reel like the Daiwa Saltist, Penn Fathom or Okuma Cavalla for the conventional models. I’d recommend the Daiwa BG MQ and Okuma Cedros series for the spinning given all of the extra features.
The lighter 15-30lb serves as a good light live bait rod and can work well for bottom fishing rigs going for rockfish, sculpin or bass. The heavier 20-50lb is perfect for a heavier setup fishing 40lb live bait, yoyo or surface irons as well as bigger lings, white seabass and deeper rockfishing. When the tuna are biting the live bait it would even work well for the mix grade fish up to 100lbs.
Saltist Boat Rods have the strength and lifting power to control powerful fish. All-around boat actions are enhanced by the proper matchup of quality components.
These rods come in two lengths 7″ to 7’6″ both in conventional and spinning rods.
The Conventional rods come equipped with a Diamond Fore Grip and EVA Foam Rear Grip with Aluminum Oxide Guides.
The spinning rods come with a EVA Foam Fore Grip & Rear Grip with Aluminum Oxide Guides.
